About Atlas
Meet Atlas! Atlas came to us as a stray with no known history. Since arriving, he has shown himself to be a moderately social, highly food-motivated dog who enjoys engaging with people and toys. At intake, he displayed a soft body and wagging tail, allowing leashing and handling. He readily approaches handlers and is eager to interact, especially when treats or toys are involved. My Ideal Home Atlas is looking for an experienced, adult-only home prepared to provide structure, training, and daily physical and mental enrichment. He has moderate leash pulling and may bark and pull toward certain dogs. He also becomes tense and growls when approached while in possession of a toy, so adopters must be committed to safely managing and positively training around resource guarding behaviors. Atlas is highly treat motivated, which will be a helpful tool in reward-based training. Long walks, puzzle toys, structured play, and clear boundaries will help him thrive. Good with Kids? Not recommended for homes with children under 13. Due to mouthy behavior and resource guarding tendencies, an adult-only home is advised. Good with Other Pets? History with other pets is unknown. Atlas has shown moderate on-leash reactivity toward select dogs, including pulling and barking. Careful management and slow introductions would be essential if placed in a home with another dog. His behavior suggests he may do best as the only pet at this time. Overall Health Healthy overall at this time. He may become stiff during exams but otherwise seeks attention and handles routine care. Behavior Determination Level 3 - Atlas requires an experienced adopter prepared to work on resource guarding, mouthiness, and leash reactivity using positive, reward-based training and consistent structure. Other Fun Facts Atlas is very treat motivated and loves to engage with toys, gripping and playing enthusiastically. He enjoys following his handler during movement exercises and is eager to interact - he just needs guidance and structure to channel his energy in positive ways.
