About Barkus
Start your journey together! Apply now. Barkus was discovered roaming the streets, eager to greet every dog along his path with a gentle and happy spirit. Though he arrived in rough shape, his kind nature shines through. In his foster home, Barkus gets along wonderfully with his foster siblings—a pit mix and a chihuahua mix—enjoying playtime, especially running and wrestling with his foster sister (though he can play a bit rough when overly excited). This sweet boy is eager to please, readily sitting for treats and offering his paw for a little extra affection. He’s mastered commands like "sit," "paw," and will calmly lay down in the car before heading out. Barkus is crate trained, happily walking into his crate without fuss, and he is content to nap or lounge freely when his foster family is busy working from home. His favorite pastimes include chewing on ice, sunbathing, chasing lizards, playing fetch, enjoying his toys, and going for car rides. He welcomes strangers calmly, seeking out some pets rather than barking. Currently, Barkus is working on his leash-walking skills and can be reactive when seeing other dogs on walks—likely because he just wants to meet them! He will need slow introductions to children as he learns to be comfortable around them, but with patience he will surely settle in. Barkus is simply looking for a loving home where he can be the affectionate and loyal companion he was meant to be. They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now!
