About Barkus
Barkus is endlessly sweet and playful. Picked up roaming the streets, he quickly charmed every finder and every dog he met. No one knows his backstory, but it’s clear he’s come through some tough times with a happy, gentle nature. In foster care, Barkus gets along well with his foster dog siblings—from a pit mix to a chihuahua mix—and especially loves tearing around and playing with his foster sister. He’s eager to please and learns fast, always treat-motivated, already knowing sit, paw, "bang bang" (for lying down), spin, and even calmly waits in the car before hopping out. Handing out treats is a breeze: Barkus is careful and never shows food aggression. Crate training was no problem—he slips into his crate for a treat and seems genuinely content there. Barkus spends the workday relaxing with free roam. The world outside the window sparks his interest, but call his name and he’ll turn his attention to you in exchange for a treat. He likes his walks and can be exuberant on leash, but this is improving steadily. Off leash, he’s shown himself to be reliably social with other dogs. Barkus has some quirks—he loves chewing on ice and fruit, sunbathing, chasing lizards, and always says yes to a game of fetch. Baths are easy with a lick pad and peanut butter. He may need slow introductions if kids are around, as he’s still figuring them out, but with the right guidance, he’ll warm up. Barkus clearly wants nothing more than love and would thrive with a confident owner who can help polish his manners into perfect companion material. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
