Calypso
AvailableCalypso is a young, medium-sized American Bully/Akita mix with a striking tricolor coat of brown, black, and white. She's spayed, vaccinated, house trained, has a short coat, and is currently living in Austin, AR. Calypso does have special needs and would do best with an adopter experienced with her breed mix.
About Calypso
Calypso came to rescue in tough shape—thin, heartworm positive, and misidentified as a shepherd mix. DNA testing revealed she’s mainly American Bully, Akita, and American Pit Bull Terrier. She’s got plenty of personality: fiercely loyal, vocal about her preferences, high prey drive, and all the quirks you’d expect from her background. Calypso loves biting at hose water, chasing her noise-making ball, and gobbling treats. She’ll do best with someone who knows Akitas and is ready to invest in consistent training; she’s smart and motivated to learn but needs clear structure. In her current foster home, Calypso gets along with some—but not all—other dogs. She lives with cats but isn’t trustworthy around them without supervision. She’s also around kids, but her high energy makes her a better fit in homes without small children. Calypso is looking for the right adopter to help her reach her full potential. Questions about Calypso
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Calypso's breed mix—American Bully, Akita, and American Pit Bull Terrier—tends to do best in homes with experienced, active owners who can provide structure and training. A house with a secure yard is ideal, but strong leadership and engagement matter most.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Medium to large outdoor space suits Calypso’s breed mix well. She thrives when given room to play and exercise, so a fenced yard is preferable, though regular walks can also meet her needs with sufficient activity.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Calypso can live with children but given her energy level and strength, homes with older kids or those familiar with dogs are safest. Her breed mix isn’t always the best match for families with small children.
