About Palomino

Palomino (A565520) has watched a lot of people walk past his kennel lately, and every time, our hearts sink a little. He came in with dozens of other dogs during last week’s large intake. As they have slowly become available for adoption, we have celebrated each one that has left, but Palomino is still here, waiting for someone willing to look a little closer. When you first approach his kennel, he will likely bark. It is his way of saying he is unsure. He needs a little more patience than some of the others. If you kneel down, speak softly, and toss a few treats his way, you can almost see the shift happen in real time. His trust builds quickly once he realizes you mean no harm. Palomino recently enjoyed a break in a foster home and did well. In the car, he is wonderful. He will curl up, nap, and enjoy the quiet ride. At home, he is your shadow. He wants to be at your heels, beside you on the couch, or curled up close. Cuddling is his favorite thing to do. Right now, Palomino does not walk on a leash and typically needs to be carried. We believe with time, consistency, and positive experiences, he can grow more comfortable and eventually learn. He already knows how to sit for treats, which is a great starting point. He does well with other dogs and will appropriately correct them if they ignore his boundaries. He has also done great with cats and mostly acts like they are not even there. He is not yet potty trained and will need a patient, understanding family committed to helping him learn. Palomino also struggles with separation anxiety. He does not like to be crated or confined away from his people and will need an experienced home willing to work through this with compassion and structure. He has been through a lot. Despite that, his tail is almost always wagging. There is so much love packed into this little body, and he is just waiting for someone willing to invest the time and care he needs. Palomino is not the easiest dog in our adoption area, but he may very well be one of the most rewarding. If you have the patience and experience to help him feel safe and secure, he will give you loyalty and affection every single day. Palomino is guesstimated to be 4 years old and weighs 20 lbs. All dogs adopted from Huntsville Animal Services are spayed/ neutered, microchipped, dewormed, appropriately vaccinated, and receive a topical 90-day flea/ tick preventative. Ready to meet Palomino? All you have to do is stop by our shelter at 4950 Triana Blvd and head to our dog areas. You can find him in kennel D19. All adopters must be 19 years or older with a valid ID
