Ghost is four years old and 45 pounds of heart, currently trying to understand how a life can change so quickly. He came to the shelter because of the kind of grown-up tragedy that makes you wish dogs could read medical charts and fix things. Instead, Ghost does what he’s always done: he stays friendly. He stays hopeful. He’s playful and affectionate, both sturdy and gentle. Joy sometimes spills out of him in jumpy, wiggly bursts — but it’s the enthusiasm of someone who simply loves being included. On leash he walks easily, though every now and then he’ll pause to look behind him, as if something he lost might still be there. He’s a little sensitive to loud noises and prefers reassurance over chaos. And while he may bark at a stranger at first, the truth is he wants to be petted, included, chosen. Ghost is a good dog in the middle of a hard chapter. He needs a family who understands that sometimes the bravest hearts belong to the ones who are quietly becoming.
