About Catahoula Leopard Dog Dogs

Catahoula Leopard Dogs are striking, versatile working dogs from Louisiana, named for Catahoula Parish. They are known for their distinctive merle coat patterns and often have striking glass eyes (heterochromia). They were originally bred to herd wild hogs and cattle in the swamps.

Adopting a Catahoula brings an intelligent, independent companion who is fiercely loyal to their family. They need an experienced owner who can provide firm, gentle leadership and plenty of exercise. In the right home, they are affectionate and protective family dogs.
