Balto is in Houston, Texas and can be transported out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Balto’s story started in the Cleveland shelter, where he landed on the euthanasia list through no fault of his own. But this joyful, wiggly, lovable boy got his second chance when rescue stepped in—and he has been making the most of every minute since. Now he’s ready for the best part of his journey: finding a family to love. Balto is the perfect blend of playful goofball and world-class snuggler. He LOVES people, adores other dogs, and has an enthusiastic zest for life that’s impossible not to smile at. He plays hard in the best way with zoomies, wrestling, running, joyful pouncing, and rolling in the dirt like it’s his day job, but he also settles beautifully and loves nothing more than putting his head in your lap for neck scratches or sitting right on your feet just to be close. He’s fantastic with other dogs and currently plays with pups much larger than him. He shares toys, reads dog cues well, and would thrive with a playful canine buddy. On walks, he heels nicely and listens to “leave it,” though he may pull with excitement when he spots a dog or squirrel to say hello to. He greets new people with a tail-wagging welcome and rarely jumps. While he doesn’t know his basic commands yet, he’s smart, and eager to please and will quickly learn with treats and praise. Balto is fully housebroken, crate trained, a great car rider, and has that irresistible “you just can’t be mad at me” charm. He’s part athlete, part acrobat, so a sturdy fence or supervision outdoors is best for this curious explorer. Balto will thrive in an active home that can match his joyful energy, whether that means adventures, playtime with another dog, or fun family outings.
