About Tubby Lou

Hi, I’m Tubby Lou I’m a 7-month-old shepherd mix and what my foster calls a true “diamond in the ruff.” I recently went through a lot of big life changes when my parents moved into tiny home housing with the help from Front Street Animal Shelter Homeless Outreach Program. They were only allowed one dog, which meant my dog mom and dad got to stay with my human parents and I get the chance to find a new forever home of my very own. At first, I was pretty shaken up and nervous — everything felt new and a little overwhelming. I had never even lived inside a house before! But once I had time to decompress in foster care, my confidence started to bloom. I may be a little shy when we first meet, but if you’re gentle and kind, I warm up quickly. I just like to know I’m safe. For a young pup, I’m surprisingly well-mannered and fairly low-energy. I’m great with other dogs and actually look to my dog friends for confidence and guidance. If a dog doesn’t feel like playing, I totally respect their space. If they do want to zoom around? I can match that energy, too! I read body language really well. I’ve also been living with a friendly resident cat. I was curious at first (hello, gentle nose boops!), but we coexist nicely. I met a dog-loving one-year-old baby and did well, though I haven’t met lots of kids yet. I’m crate trained and really love having my own cozy space. I sleep through the night and sometimes even choose to hang out in my crate during the day. I’ve been working hard on potty training and learned quickly that outside is the place to go! I’m still building the routine, so I do best with regular potty breaks to help me stay successful. On walks, I’m a star! I don’t pull, I check in often for reassurance, and I stay calm when I see other dogs. I take treats gently, enjoy snack time, and can eat near other dogs without any issues. My foster parent says I’m one of the best dogs they have ever had — and that’s saying a lot! I’m sweet, thoughtful, and eager to learn. I thrive with routine, kindness, and a little encouragement. I’m currently hanging out in the Homeless Outreach Program office (so you won’t see me in the kennels!), taking cozy naps and dreaming about my forever family. Can that be with you? Please make my forever home dreams come true!
