He’s been with our family since just before Christmas, and once he settled in, his personality really blossomed. Ernest is 9 years young — the perfect mix of calm companion and playful spirit. He’s not much of a barker (I’ve only heard it once!), but he does have the sweetest little morning stretch howl that will absolutely melt you. He loves to RUN. Truly loves it. If there’s a weak spot in a fence, he will find it — so he’ll need a secure yard or an adopter committed to leash walks and safe exercise. When he gets his zoomies out, he’s the happiest guy. Afterward, he’s all about couch time and cozy naps like it was the best day ever. Ernest has formed the sweetest bond with my profoundly autistic son. He is gentle, affectionate, and thrives on connection. He does need to be crated during meals because he’s very talented at convincing kids to share their food. 😅 But otherwise, he just wants to be near his people. He is fully crate trained — he waits patiently in his crate each day while we’re at school and does beautifully (I’ve checked in on video). At night, however… that’s another story. After a few evenings of sleeping in his crate, he launched what can only be described as a sorrowful opera performance. The dramatic howls. The emotion. The commitment to the role. It was award-worthy. He now sleeps with me 🥰 He is completely house trained and has only had one accident in our home. If you’re looking for the sweetest, most loyal, snuggly boy — Ernest is it.
