About Joey

If you're looking for a playful, silly fun-loving companion, Joey may be your guy! This handsome German Shepherd mix is approximately 2 years old and is 76 pounds of personality. Joey can be a little timid at first, but he builds trust quickly, especially if you have treats. And trust us
treats are at the very top of Joey’s list of favorite things. All. The. Treats. Coming in as a close second
Toys. Joey loves toys. He’s perfectly happy entertaining himself, but he’s always up for a good game of tug or fetch. If you’re not fast enough, he’ll gently plop the toy right in your lap to remind you to keep things moving. Joey also enjoys other dogs and has a fairly submissive play style. He’s been a happy, enthusiastic playmate with our tester dog. He’s spent time with older kids and does well with them, taking treats gently and enjoying their company. Because sudden movements can startle him, as well as his size, he may be overwhelmed by toddlers or very young children. We don’t know how Joey ended up as a stray, but sometimes everyday things still make him nervous. When that happens, he prefers to retreat and regroup. Cats are a firm no for Joey. He also shows an intense interest in ducks, squirrels, and other small critters, so a home without chickens and other small animals would probably be best. Because of his high prey drive and timid spirit in new situations, Joey will require a securely fenced yard. Did we mention how smart he is? Joey already knows “sit,” loves giving high-fives (and sometimes high-tens), and understands “off.” He may still get a little jumpy when excited, usually because he wants to hug you or inspect what’s happening on the kitchen counter. On leash, he’s improving every day. He occasionally steps in front of you and stops suddenly (so keep those reflexes ready!), but he’s eager to learn. While he may give a quiet “woof” if you’re taking too long to throw his toy, he’s otherwise a pretty quiet guy. He has not had any accidents in his foster home and seems to be house trained. Joey does get anxious on car rides so will need your help and understanding to gradually work with him. Joey Likes: Playing Toys Walks Other dogs Older kids A quieter home
