Houlihan
AvailableHoulihan is a young, small brindle Retriever currently living in Chattanooga, TN. She is one year old and has been spayed, with her vaccinations up to date. Houlihan loves spending time with other dogs and is making progress in her foster home as she learns to trust people. She is looking for a patient adopter who can provide a calm environment while she builds confidence.
About Houlihan
Meet Houlihan! She just turned one, and while she isn’t quick to greet new people, she’s finding her footing day by day in foster care. Houlihan came from a background with very little human interaction, so most things are still new and a bit intimidating for her. Even at her most nervous, she never shows aggression—just quiet caution. Patience and gentle routine are helping her learn to trust. Her foster mom has watched her hit important milestones: she’s working on crate training, beginning to relax on the couch, and has started enjoying calm petting sessions. Each breakthrough feels hard-won with Houlihan, and she’s proving how much a nurturing environment can help an anxious pup. She absolutely flourishes around other dogs and truly lights up in their company. Having a well-adjusted, friendly dog in her future home would help her come out of her shell and adapt to family life. She needs a peaceful, patient adopter willing to move at her pace and celebrate the small steps forward. Houlihan might not ever be a lap dog, but she’s ready to find someone who will let her be herself. There’s nothing quite like watching a shy dog discover comfort, safety, and happiness, one gentle step at a time. As a fun fact, Houlihan is a Taurus, which means she might surprise you with her steady loyalty. Click apply to start the adoption process.

Questions about Houlihan
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Retrievers like Houlihan do best in a calm and stable home that offers both relaxation and some opportunities for mental stimulation. Because she's still getting used to people, a quieter household will help her thrive.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Houlihan’s Retriever roots mean she’d benefit from regular access to a safe, fenced yard or frequent walks. She enjoys outside time, especially when other dogs are around, but doesn’t need endless acreage.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Retrievers generally do well with children when properly socialized, but since Houlihan is shy and adjusting to human contact, she'd fit best in a home with older, gentle kids who understand how to move slowly around her.
