If you are a chihuahua lover, ISMA just may be your perfect girl! ***Isma is being fostered in NYC (Brooklyn specifically) and is ready for a meet and greet!*** She is 9.8 lbs and her vet paperwork states she is 7 years old, although she may be a little older. She is long-legged and graceful and looks like a miniature horse when she moves, sporting a cute galloping gait when she runs around. She looks great in clothing, especially onesies (and she is svelte and confident enough to sport horizontal stripes without a second thought). Isma was rescued in Puerto Rico (Cayey specifically) and was found scavenging for scraps on a busy roadside. Her rescuer happened to be driving by and spotted her white tiny body on the side of the road and of course had to pick her up. Isma is the definition of a happy-go-lucky companion. When she sees her favorite people, she literally jumps with glee! While she loves "her people" like many chihuahuas, she can easily open up and love and shows affection to many people at once. She is not very "chihuahua" in that way (a plus!). Energy wise, she is low energy...except when she sees her favorite people or gets spurts of playfulness. We listed her as a "senior" given her age, but she really doesn't exude senior level energy. She likes to snooze a lot of the day but we also attribute that to her personality; she likes to relax with her people and is a homebody! She is a Certified Lap Dog (self-certified) who thrives on affection. She loves cuddling. She loves being in her little sling while her foster mom does mundane tasks like grocery shopping, errands, making coffee, etc. She is easy going and silent and likes being along for the ride. Isma is a friend to everyone! With her rescuer in Puerto Rico she harmoniously lived with 4 dogs of all ages and sizes and was great with them all. Her rescuer also has a place in NYC and she's residing with her there along with her foster pittie sister, Pattie (also up for adoption). She enjoys chilling on the couch with her in her jammies. They are quite the odd and adorable couple! While Isma has never formally been cat tested in a home, we think she would be just as happy sharing a home with a feline friend given her calm demeanor. While she loves meeting new people and soaking up attention from strangers, we think she would prefer a home with adults or older children who can respect her boundaries and appreciate her gentle nature. She likes the quiet! Isma has a delightful silly side! In true rescue fashion, her favorite toys aren't fancy store-bought ones; she prefers paper and cardboard. Her rescuer/foster has lovingly nicknamed her the "Confetti Maker" for her talent for shredding boxes with pure joy. Perhaps we got it all wrong and she is part cat (??). Isma has excellent recall and will come when called. She walks beautifully on a leash and handles her pen like a pro with zero separation anxiety (Amen for apartment dwellers!). While she is an active girl who may bark once to say hello to passersby from the window, she is not a nuisance barker. She just likes to play concierge once in a while. She is a generally quiet companion. She is fully vaccinated, 4dx (heartworm) negative and fecal (parasites) negative. She is not spayed yet but will be spayed in New York prior to her adoption (we preferred to have it done here). Please also note that she was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, but don't let that diagnosis scare you! It is and has been perfectly managed with simple pill medication twice a day, and it doesn't stop her from running, jumping, and living life to the fullest. She is truly thriving.
