About Rugar
Rugar is a 2-year-old Australian Cattle Dog who is finally getting some luck on his side. He spent his life outside on a chain and never knew the basics of comfort or security, but he still greets the world with a gentle, forgiving attitude. After his original owner died, Rugar ended up in a tough spot and survived a serious attack by another dog before being safely brought into rescue. The world is still a big, unpredictable place for him, but he's learning that he’s safe and can relax. He needs a quiet household without small children and a patient, heeler-experienced person who understands this breed. Rugar’s new person will need to help him gain confidence; a fenced yard helps give him space. He gets along with other dogs, and after settling in foster care, he shows a surprising willingness to adapt—he's housebroken, kennel trained with food, and has shown confidence and playfulness as he settles in. Rugar is high energy when outdoors but calms down well after a solid play session. Right now, he’s in Louisiana, but transport is available to Florida for the right home. He is neutered and just waiting for someone to help him become the loyal companion he’s meant to be. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Rugar
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Australian Cattle Dogs like Rugar thrive in active homes that offer routine, structure, and plenty of opportunity for exercise. They do best where their intelligence and energy have an outlet, such as a house with a backyard or a rural property.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Rugar's breed generally benefits from a spacious yard or access to outdoor play areas. Australian Cattle Dogs need room to burn energy and explore, so small apartments without frequent outdoor activities aren’t ideal.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Rugar, as an Australian Cattle Dog, is best in homes with older children or no children, as this breed’s herding instincts and energy can be overwhelming for little ones. He specifically needs a home without small children.
