Onyx has come a long way from the day he was found thin and malnourished behind a restaurant in Mauldin. After more than two years of steady foster care, he's now a plump, physically healthy boy. He does need urinary-care food because of a previous bladder or kidney infection, and staying on that diet keeps him feeling his best. Emotionally, he's still learning that the world can be safe. Onyx tends to stay in "survival mode," so he'll flourish in a calm, predictable home with someone patient enough to let him open up slowly. Once he feels secure, his gentle, observant personality starts to show. One of the easiest ways to connect with him is through his grooming glove; he relaxes into the routine and enjoys the quiet interaction. At around 7 years old, Onyx is a quiet, soft-hearted companion who wants connection; he just needs the right person to help him feel truly home.
