At 9 years young, Nitro Nelly is the perfect blend of seasoned maturity and young pup enthusiasm. Recently transitioning to CARE STL after the passing of his owner, this distinguished fellow has proven himself to be a resilient, "house-proud" gentleman. He is fully potty trained, crate trained, and a total superstar in the car. Whether he's snoozing in his open crate or sitting politely for his next adventure, Nelly carries himself with a grace that makes him an absolute joy to have in the home. Nelly's true passion, however, is the great outdoors. He is a vibrant, semi-athletic soul who lives for his time in the sunshine. While he is a dream on a leash, he possesses a high prey drive and will eagerly try to join the local deer (or dogs) for a sprint. So, a secure tall fence is a must for this "Nitro" boy! On walks, he is a social butterfly, always keen to greet other dogs with a wagging tail. He is a friend to every human he meets and is more than happy to reciprocate any attention you give him with a round of big, slobbery kisses. Don't let the "senior" tag fool you-Nelly is an incredibly sharp student who is always looking for ways to earn a treat. He has already mastered "sit" and "paw," and he has been making impressive strides with "down" and "roll." Because he is so food-motivated, training is a fantastic way to bond with him. Please note that while Nelly loves people and other dogs, he has a strict "no cats" policy. He finds feline friends far too exciting to ignore and will let them know exactly how he feels with a loud bark, so he is looking for a cat-free forever home.
