About Nina

Nina is a medium-sized Jack Russell Terrier and Coonhound mix, about seven years old and spayed. She was rescued in Puerto Rico after a long stretch living near a gas station and raising a litter of six pups. Tracking her took a month and a half before she finally allowed herself to be brought to safety—pregnant and ready to let her guard down. She’s had a patchwork of experiences but has always been loyal, sweet, and cautious with strangers. Since being adopted by a family member, Nina's world has changed again: the arrival of a baby has made her uncomfortable, and her people realized she needs a quieter space. Nina bonds strongly with her trusted humans and prefers an adult home. She does not get along with most other dogs, so a single-pet household is best, or a very gradual, deliberate introduction with any resident dog. She’s house trained, affectionate, and gives her whole heart to her person. If you’re able to foster or adopt, she can travel anywhere in the US. Nina deserves a calm, steady life after all she’s lived through. What are you waiting for? Apply today!

Questions about Nina

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Nina, as a Jack Russell Terrier and Coonhound mix, tends to do best in a calm and stable home environment with a consistent routine. She prefers a place where she can bond deeply with her person and enjoy quiet time.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Nina’s breeds are active by nature, so a secure yard or regular walks will serve her well, but given her age and temperament, even moderate outdoor time with supervision should meet her needs.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Nina is uncomfortable with young children and would do best in a home without them, which is not uncommon for Jack Russell Terrier mixes with a more sensitive temperament.
