About Scout
They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now! Scout is looking for someone special to see how far he's come. Arriving about a year ago at roughly five years old, Scout was once a scared dog who could come across as aggressive when frightened. Thanks to plenty of patience and positive support, he's grown tremendously. Scout now shares space with other dogs and enjoys their company, though, at heart, he's a devoted companion who bonds deeply with those he trusts. If you give Scout the time to build trust, you'll discover a snuggly friend who adores being held and thrives on affection. Scout is especially fond of squeaky toys and can't resist dried liver treats. He's looking for a calm, adult-only home (no children, please!) where he can feel safe and loved. Due to his background, Scout will need a few gradual introductions with you and the staff to ensure everyone is comfortable. Scout was once picked up as a stray, but he still has so much love to offer someone willing to give him their patience and understanding. He's a diamond in the rough—ready to settle in and share his affection with the right person. Make their next chapter their best one yet.

What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Rat Terriers are highly adaptable but typically do best in quiet, secure homes where they can feel safe. They enjoy both houses and apartments, provided they receive enough attention and exercise.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Rat Terriers benefit from having a fenced yard to explore, but they can thrive in smaller spaces too as long as they get regular walks and active playtime.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Rat Terriers can be good with children if properly socialized, but their energetic and sensitive nature means they often do best in homes with older kids or adults who respect their boundaries.
