Dog name: Ginger Gender: Female, spayed Age/weight: ~4 yrs/ 78 lbs Breed: Chocolate Lab mix Heartworm status: Neg Medications/Injuries: Flea and tick, thyroid med twice daily I just put in her food, probiotic vitamin. Dogs? She is good with other dogs but definitely doesn’t need one and actually would be best matched with another dog that doesn’t mind her energy level at introduction. She is definitely trying to figure out the pecking order with my pack. She’s identified the alphas but will try to assert dominance with the others. She barks incessantly when meeting another dog and won’t stop until she is able to play with them. Her last meet and greet didn’t go to plan because the resident dog was not about her enthusiasm. Cats? Yes. My cat is very elderly and she is fine with her. Other animals? Unknown Good with people? She loves people. As her thyroid has gotten corrected and she has lost weight she has started jumping on new people when she meets them. We are working on that. Good with children? Yes. She’s been around my grandchildren of varied ages for a couple days. House trained? Yes, fully house trained. She had a bout of diarrhea in the middle of the night last night and was kind enough to do it in the walk-in shower. Made quick work of clean up. Crate? Definitely does not like it. She will go in just fine and is not destructive, but will bark the entire time she’s in it. Poor girl barked for 4.5 hours straight one time. She really does not need one. She is not destructive and besides counter surfing is a very respectable member of the household. Energy level: Low end of medium. Throw the ball for her twice a day for 15–20 minutes each and she chills the rest of the time. Travel well? AMAZING! Goes right to sleep and seems to enjoy rides. Favorite toy/play: Fetching. Seeing a ball is like “crack” to her. Likes to chew on bones. Leash trained? Needs work. Definitely a puller and reactive to anything that excites her. Fence required? Fence is nice because of her love of fetching. Would be nice but not required. One thing I specifically want to call out is her growl/grumble when you move your feet/legs while she’s sleeping or comfortable. She has never snapped or raised a lip, but her grumble will escalate to a growl. For an owner that is not dog savvy, I can see this little quirk being intimidating or viewed as aggressive. I’ve started to not allow her on the bed at night to try and stop the behavior. She allows me to pull her off with no issue, but will persistently try to get back on. I call it her apology tour. Otherwise, she’s a really sweet, low-maintenance girl.
