About Ruthie

Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you. Ruthie is a remarkable 2-year-old, 60-lb Boxer mix with a gentle spirit and keen intelligence. Previously surviving on her own in an industrial area, she developed remarkable resourcefulness and resilience, nourished by the kindness of workers and mechanics. This cleverness shines through in her foster home, where she’s been exceptionally polite and fully house-trained, never displaying aggression—only some lingering shyness and caution with new people. Even in her most fearful moments, Ruthie opts for quiet withdrawal rather than confrontation, demonstrating her deeply sensitive nature. She is a quiet observer and reads her environment brilliantly, often slipping away if she feels uncertain. Over time, Ruthie is learning to enjoy gentle affection, gradually opening up to soft scratches and calm interactions from those she trusts. She loves the company of other dogs, making her a wonderful pack companion both in the home and at the dog park. Ruthie coexists peacefully with the resident Chihuahua in her foster home, enjoys playful wrestling with similar-sized dogs, and is content to lounge quietly as her foster mom works from home. Though she relishes moments of affection and shadowing her foster mom, Ruthie remains cautious, and trust must be built with patience. Watching her grow more comfortable each day has been deeply rewarding. Because of her background, Ruthie is a high flight-risk and needs a committed adopter with a securely fenced yard and experience managing fearful or flight-risk dogs—someone prepared to use safety tools and provide confident handling. She has interacted with children respectfully and treats them like small adults, preferring a calm environment. With structure, patience, and lots of love, Ruthie is sure to blossom into a devoted companion. Helping her continue to relax and finally feel secure will be a privilege for her forever family. They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
