About Kaya
Meet Kaya Kaya is a Black German Shepherd, possibly mixed with Belgian Shepherd (Groenendael). She is an intelligent, affectionate, and highly driven working-breed dog who will thrive in a structured environment with consistent training, regular exercise, and mental stimulation. Kaya is best suited for an experienced adopter or an active home familiar with high-energy, working-line breeds. Background Kaya was still very young when she became pregnant and was later found living on the streets of San Antonio. Sadly, she lost her litter before being rescued. She is currently in a foster home with a large fenced yard, where she has continued to build confidence and stability. Temperament & Behavior Kaya is people-oriented, eager to please, and does best when she is engaged and receiving attention. She is highly intelligent and learns quickly. Like many working breeds, she benefits from clear boundaries, consistent guidance, and purposeful activity. When her physical and mental needs are met, she settles well. Dog Compatibility Kaya does well with other dogs. She currently lives with a young male hound mix and another foster dog, a red heeler mix, and has shown appropriate and friendly social behavior with both. Training & Management Needs Kaya is athletic and curious, with strong problem-solving skills. She will require a secure yard and supervision appropriate for an intelligent working dog. She has shown improvement with management and structure and will continue to benefit from ongoing training. Crate training is a work in progress, and a durable setup is recommended. Ideal Home Kaya would do best in a home that: Has experience with German Shepherds, Belgian Shepherds, or similar working breeds Can provide daily exercise and mental enrichment Is committed to ongoing training Has a securely fenced yard or appropriate containment Is looking for an engaged, loyal companion rather than a low-energy pet Summary German Shepherds and Groenendaels have long histories as police, military, and service dogs due to their intelligence, athleticism, and loyalty. Kaya embodies these qualities and has strong potential to become an exceptional companion or working partner for the right adopter. If you are seeking a devoted, intelligent dog and are prepared to meet the needs of a working breed, Kaya may be an excellent match. She will be spayed on 2/10/26.
