About Millie

Millie is a 3 year old Great Pyrenees weighing about 85 pounds. We don't know much about her past, other than she found herself in a Texas shelter with a litter of puppies a few months ago. Thankfully, Millie hitched a ride north to Michigan (brrr!) and is now getting the second chance she deserves. She is a very sweet, calm, and gentle girl. Like many dogs coming out of a shelter environment, Millie needed a few days to decompress and benefited from slow, thoughtful introductions to the resident dogs in her foster home. She seems to be comfortable with smaller dogs, but would do best as an only dog Millie is curious about the cats in her foster home but has not attempted to chase them. She has shown some mild food guarding behaviors, but has had no aggression issues when food or treats are not involved. Her foster is happy to talk more about this and what has been working well. True to her Great Pyrenees roots, Millie has an independent streak and likes to do things on her own terms, but she responds well to a firm, calm voice and gentle redirection. She would do best in a home with adults or a family she can bond closely with. She doesn't seem bothered by normal household activity and chaos, and her foster believes she would likely do well with kids of any age (the youngest in the home is 10, so weare not sure if she's been around anyone younger). Millie would love a large yard with a secure fence or invisible fence. She is currently using an invisible fence and is very respectful of it. As is typical for the breed, she will bark at noises as part of her natural instinct to protect her home, though she is not overly vocal. She knows how to sit, adores rolling onto her back for belly rubs, and will gently offer a paw when she wants your attention. Millie is an absolute doll and will make such a loving, loyal addition to the right family. Typical Characteristics Very affectionate with their family Naturally protective and watchful Calm, patient, and sweet natured Independent thinkers Great with children and other animals when properly introduced Thrive in a peaceful, predictable environment Training & Personality Highly intelligent but independent Not eager to please like some breeds Respond best to calm, consistent, positive training May appear stubborn, but they are simply thinking things through Love having a “job,” even if that job is watching over the yard Important Needs A securely fenced yard is strongly recommended Time, patience, and gentle leadership Regular grooming due to heavy shedding A family that understands guardian breeds Potential Challenges Can be vocal, especially at night, as guarding is instinctual May roam if not properly contained Protective insticts Not ideal for apartments or busy, high traffic environments Best Fit Home Great Pyrenees do best with people who appreciate a calm, loyal companion and respect their independent nature. They thrive with families who want a steady presence, not a constantly active dog. In Short If you want a devoted, gentle protector who will love deeply and watch over their home with quiet confidence, the Great Pyrenees is an incredible breed. They ask for patience, space, and understanding in return. The adoption fee is $390.00. All animals are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed/neutered.
