About Gypsy

Meet Gypsy — an adorable little Shih Tzu with possibly a touch of Yorkie charm! Imagine being a sweet little 10-pound Shih Tzu, all alone, hungry, and scared in a busy city with nowhere safe to go. That was Gypsy’s reality several months ago when she was found wandering on her own and brought to a shelter by Animal Control. Gypsy hadn’t been groomed in far too long, but thankfully, our rescue was able to step in and bring her to a loving foster home. She was groomed right away and has truly blossomed since then. Gypsy is a super sweet, affectionate girl who loves being the center of attention. She’s smart, playful, and enjoys chasing her little ball and playing with her favorite toys. She loves lap time, snuggling next to her foster mom while watching TV, and sleeps peacefully beside her all night. She’s a happy pup who frequently gets the zoomies and clearly enjoys life. Estimated by the veterinarian to be around a year old. Gypsy can be skittish with new people at first—but she genuinely wants to make friends and just needs patience and reassurance. She gets along well with other animals, including a large dog, a small dog, and a cat. Gypsy is house-trained with a doggy door and fenced yard, knows the “sit” command, rides calmly in the car, and enjoys her walks. She does well on a leash and has a good appetite. We are looking for a kind, patient home for Gypsy—ideally one with another small, sweet dog to help build her confidence, a securely fenced yard for safety, and someone home much of the day to continue her socialization and help her feel secure. Gypsy is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on Heartgard Plus. Gypsy’s adoption fee is $475.00 Please note that if you are unable to adopt Gypsy but would like to help cover any vetting expenses by donating through the Petfinder Foundation while she is waiting to find her new family, please click the “Sponsor” bar in the purple box on the right side of this page. Thank you so much for supporting her! Also, when adopting or purchasing a dog, please consider the care and grooming involved with long-haired breeds such as Gypsy. They are considered "high maintenance" because they do require frequent brushing, as well as regular trips to the groomer. If this doesn’t fit into your lifestyle or budget, then a short-haired breed may be a better choice for you. Forever Home Canine Rescue offers a three-week trial period with all of our adoptions, just to be sure that the pet is a good match for the adopting family. The fee is refunded if the adoption does not work out within the trial period. We want to be sure that each of our pets will have the perfect "forever" home! Forever Home Canine Rescue adopts out-of-state, but we never ship or transport our pets. An approved adopter must come to North Carolina to meet their new canine companion and then take him/her back home with them. We would like to thank both Ashley Whitehead and her foster Mom, Dinah, who took these lovely photos of Gypsy to help her find a wonderful forever home!
