Duncan—lovingly known as Dunkie Doodle—has lived through more pain than any dog ever should. When he came to us, he bore deep scars both inside and out. He had been horrifically attacked by another dog and likely abused by the humans who were supposed to protect him. It’s no surprise that he can be fearful of new people and unfamiliar places. But that isn’t the full story of who Duncan is. The Duncan we know is the one doing joyful zoomies in the yard. He’s the one sneaking in surprise kisses when he’s feeling safe. He’s the one gleefully shredding stuffies and leaning in close for cuddles with the people he’s learned to trust. That Duncan is goofy, sweet, and absolutely full of love. He just needs someone willing to give him the time and space to let that version of himself shine. Duncan must be an only pet, and he may need some time to warm up to new people—but he is so worth the wait. He is housebroken, loyal, and incredibly loving once he feels safe. He doesn’t need perfection; he just needs patience. We know there’s someone out there who understands what it means to heal. Someone who knows that scars—both seen and unseen—don’t make you broken.
