Thank you! Meet Sugar – she’s just as sweet as her name and is (we think) a MaltiPoo, a blend of Poodle and Maltese. Sugar's backstory is a mystery. This little sweetheart was found wandering all on her own and was brought to a county shelter. She wasn't microchipped and yet she appeared to be freshly-groomed and was wearing a nice collar -- and was 110% housetrained! She had not been spayed when found and – amazingly – was not pregnant! Sadly, no one came forward to claim her, but she is now safe and thriving in a loving foster home where she’s receiving all the affection she craves. Sugar weighs about 11 lbs. and is estimated to be approximately 1½ years old. The vet has given her a clean bill of health, and she has now been spayed and microchipped. Sugar does not have an Alpha personality and tends toward the timid side, but she is extremely friendly with people, large and small, young and old, male and female. She was probably never properly socialized with other pups when she was little, and so it's not her fault that being in the company of other dogs has been a bit of a learning curve for her. She has no aggressive tendencies whatsoever. She’s just a sweet soul who needs patience and practice with her puppy manners, which her foster family is lovingly providing. We are seeking a home for Sugar where there is already a dog who can help Sugar learn how to enjoy having a canine companion. Older children (12+) would be best, because toddlers' quick movements and outbursts would be frightening for her. A securely-fenced yard is required, where she can play happily and safely with her canine brother or sister. And ideally, someone would be at home during the day, since Sugar loves human companionship. Sugar's favorite pastimes are being anywhere her people are, car rides, leash walks, snuggling on the couch, and playing fetch. (She is a champion fetcher, always returning the ball or toy for just one more throw!) She has a very good appetite and has learned to sit for her meals, treats, and leash. And it bears repeating...Sugar is perfectly housetrained! Besides being spayed and microchipped, Sugar is current on her Distemper/Parvo and Rabies vaccines. She tested negative for heartworms and is on Heartgard for heartworm prevention. Sugar's adoption fee is $475.00. We accept checks or cash for adoption fees. (Sorry, we cannot take credit cards.) Also, please note that Sugar's breed mix is considered "high maintenance" because her hair will require regular brushing, plus grooming about every four to six weeks. The fee is refunded if the adoption does not work out within the trial period. We want to be sure that every one of our pets will have their perfect "forever" home! Although Forever Home Canine Rescue adopts out-of-state, we never ship or transport our pets. An approved adopter must come to North Carolina to meet their new canine companion and then take him/her back home with them.
