About Pine Cone

Age: 11 years Size: 18 lbs Good with: Kids and dogs. No cats. Pine Cone’s previous owner brought her to the shelter to be euthanized after she began vomiting and they didn’t have the resources to pursue treatment. Thankfully, shelter staff stepped in and convinced them to surrender her instead. While at the shelter, Pine Cone contracted CIRDC and rapidly lost weight, placing her at high risk for euthanasia. When she came into our care, we uncovered several underlying medical issues, including chronic dry eyes that had progressed to a severe infection, and a suspicious lump that was later diagnosed as a mast cell tumor. The good news? Her mast cell tumor was successfully removed with clean margins, and her eyes are now well-managed with daily eye drops—which she accepts easily and without fuss. She’ll need lifelong eye care, but it’s a simple routine she handles like a pro. Beyond her medical journey, Pine Cone is an absolute people-lover. She is incredibly tolerant of handling and enjoys human companionship above all else. She does best with calm, respectful dogs—rowdy play isn’t her style, and she’ll let others know if they cross that line. Cats, however, are a firm no. Though Pine Cone is a senior, she still has wonderful energy and zest for life. She loves going for walks, relaxing at cafés, browsing shops, and even attending house parties—she’s truly happiest being included. Pine Cone is fostered in NYC and is available for local or out-of-state adoption as long as the adopter can travel to meet her.
