Tom
AvailableTom is a small, adult, neutered male Chihuahua mix currently living in Phoenix, AZ. He is not yet house trained but has received all his vaccinations. Tom’s background has made him cautious, but he’s looking for a stable, caring home to help him thrive.
About Tom
Tom is a tiny dog who's learned to look out for himself in a big, unpredictable world. At three years old and around 14 pounds, this Chihuahua mix arrived after experiencing homelessness and never having the stability most dogs expect—no leash walks, no regular vet visits, and zero routine. Because of that, Tom can be wary and defensive when scared; it's the only way he knows to protect himself. There's a lot of untapped potential in Tom. Give him a stable environment, clear boundaries, and gentle encouragement, and his wary exterior will give way to a brighter, softer side. When Tom feels safe, he'll start believing that people can be kind, that walks can be enjoyable, and life doesn't have to be unpredictable. Patience will be your best tool as you help him get there. Tom needs a seasoned, patient adopter—someone who finds fulfillment in helping a cautious dog build confidence. His adoption fee is covered; he's neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and you’ll get a wellness visit included. Tom is waiting in Phoenix for the person who can help him feel at home at last. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Tom
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Tom, as a Chihuahua mix, typically does well in a quieter home, whether it's an apartment or house, given his small size and cautious nature. A patient and experienced environment would suit him best.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Chihuahua mixes like Tom don't require a large yard and are usually content with short, regular walks outside. They do best with safe, supervised outdoor time.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
While some Chihuahua mixes can adapt to families with older, respectful children, Tom is looking for a more experienced, understanding household without young kids due to his shy and defensive tendencies.
