#Earl — the little firecracker who deserves another chance 5 years old 50 lbs Earl has been with us before. He was found as a stray, and when his owner came to pick him up, the reunion was absolutely heartwarming. Earl was overjoyed. His owner was overjoyed. It was one of those moments that reminds you why you do this work. But a few months later… Earl showed up again. This time, no one came for him. And that part is truly heartbreaking. Earl is, to say the least, a little firecracker. He’s full of energy, emotion, and big feelings — and right now, those feelings are spilling out in the only ways he knows how. Earl can be very nippy, jumpy, especially in the stressful shelter environment. But hand him a stuffed animal? That’s his comfort. He loves his stuffies and will happily redirect to them. We truly believe Earl would be a completely different dog outside of the shelter. Some of our volunteers are able to walk him, and we see glimpses of the good boy he wants so badly to be. Unfortunately, we haven’t had enough opportunities to fully decompress him — but even so, we wanted to show him. Because Earl deserves to be seen. Our volunteers will continue working with Earl and helping him along the way. Please don’t let his current behavior deter you from taking a chance on a dog who simply needs a human touch, patience, and understanding. Earl deserves a family like the one he had before — someone who won’t give up on him, who understands that fear and stress don’t define who a dog truly is. He is sweet, he is smart, he is trying… and we believe with the right person, he has it in him to be a really good boy. He’s cute as can be. He’s a little stinker. And yes — he gives our volunteers a run for the money. But what he really needs is an experienced, patient person who is familiar with this type of behavior and is willing to put in the work, take a chance on him, and help him feel safe again. Fostering is also an amazing option for Earl. A foster home would allow him to decompress, learn what it feels like to be in a calm environment again, and help us better understand the dog he truly is while we work toward finding his forever home.
