About Earl
Earl is a five-year-old mixed breed who stands out for his big personality and boundless energy. This medium-sized, short-coated dog first came to the shelter as a stray and had the joy of reuniting with his previous owner. But when he returned months later, this time no one came searching for him. Now, Earl finds himself seeking someone patient and understanding to help him feel safe again. Shelter life is hard on Earl. His stress amplifies his impulse to nip and jump, especially in new or overwhelming situations. But once he’s handed a stuffed animal, Earl finds comfort and can redirect his excitement into play. Volunteers occasionally see flashes of the calm, eager-to-please dog Earl wants to be during quieter walks. He is clever, spirited, endearing, and, yes, can be a bit of a handful—but mostly, he’s a dog looking for a human willing to put in the work and give him another shot. Earl needs someone experienced with energetic or sensitive dogs. He’d thrive in a home where his big feelings are met with patience, consistent training, and a sense of calm. Fostering is another great option: it would let him decompress and reveal more of his true personality away from the shelter’s stress. Earl deserves another family, someone who won’t give up on him.
