About Romeo Aka Sassafras

Romeo Aka Sassafras is equal parts lover and fighter—just ask any stuffed animal lying around. Picked up after roaming the Pepperell neighborhood, Romeo was one of six cats no one claimed. Now living with a foster, he’s working on tolerance for her dog, but he and the dog have come to a truce: minimal interaction, plenty of personal space. Since being neutered, Romeo’s lost a bit of his former grumpiness, but he’s still an independent guy, very much a loner at heart. Petting is allowed—but only in strict moderation. He prefers rubbing against your legs or trailing you from room to room over cuddling or sitting on laps. Romeo’s self-assured, full of silky black fur, and he knows just how good he looks. He isn’t mean, just particular—he likes affection on his own terms. He’ll stay nearby, occasionally allow a kiss, but don’t expect him to linger for more. He follows his people around, even into the bathroom, always just out of reach. Romeo greets his foster at the door, sings for his supper with the sort of meow that’ll make you smile, and shows no fear around strangers. He does, however, tend to bite or nibble when overstimulated, so he needs an adopter savvy about feline body language—a true cat person. Romeo is not a lap cat, not a pick-me-up cat, and not a fan of sharing attention with other pets or children. He wants a home where he’s the only animal and companion—a person who appreciates a loyal buddy without mushy little rituals. At Fitchburg Friends of Felines, he’s part of their foster-to-adopt program, giving adopters time and support to make sure everyone clicks. Click apply to start the adoption process.
