About Nella
Meet NELLA! Estimated DOB: Summer 2019 The name Nella has a vintage charm—classic without being overused. With its gentle two syllables and melodic sound, it strikes a balance between simplicity and distinction. It carries connotations of both sweetness and quiet strength, making it a fitting name for a cat with a soft presence and a resilient spirit. I recently came across the name in a book and instantly knew it suited her. This super-shy girl was first rescued in June of 2025 by none other than Southside Sandi. I didn’t get my hands on Nella until August, as she needed time to acclimate to indoor life—and the shelter needed to create space for new intakes. Sandi had been live trapping at Harold the Hoarder’s house on 6/11, a location she has worked tirelessly for many years. After scooping up Nella, she brought her to the animal shelter where Nella was spayed and received her rabies vaccination. Sandi then took her home and quickly realized that while Nella was timid, she was also friendly. Recognizing that she needed rest, stability, and gentle care, Sandi kept her to allow her to rehab and recuperate in a quiet environment. During that time, Nella was treated with three different dewormers to eliminate Giardia, coccidia, and tapeworms from her gastrointestinal system. Sandi had initially been told that Nella had moderate dental disease, but by the time she arrived at Feline Wellness Center, that diagnosis had progressed to advanced periodontal disease, requiring multiple tooth extractions. Today, Nella is truly doing well. She now resides in The Clubhouse, alongside other reserved, reclusive, or semi-feral kitties, where she has found comfort and companionship in the shared calm of the space. It’s as though she has found her tribe—bonding quietly with Rhea, Rosario, and the other shy souls who understand her need for patience and predictability. If Nella were to be adopted, she would require a very understanding and patient person, someone willing to move at her pace and celebrate small victories. Most importantly, she would need a familiar feline companion at her side to help boost her confidence and provide a sense of security. For now, Nella is safe, settled, and surrounded by those who make her feel understood—and that, in itself, is a beautiful thing!
