About Miraculous Mercury
Oh sweet, sweet Mercury. This gorgeous gray and white boy was rescued in the fall after he fell out of a window in the Bronx. Although he could hardly walk, when our rescuer found him, Mercury’s single goal was to try and climb into his rescuer’s lap. In the fall he had broken his jaw, his right leg (in three places!), and several bones in the opposite front foot. His injuries required surgery and many, many weeks of low activity recovery. He has recovered significantly, and is looking for a gentle forever home where he can continue healing. Mercury has been amazing throughout his healing journey. Despite the surgery, all of the pain, and many wound checks, splint changes, and other vet visits, he has never complained once. His activity was significantly restricted for weeks to allow his leg to heal, and was so patient. In fact, he hasn’t shown any negative behaviors at all. He was always just so happy to see his foster every day, and soaked up all the petting and head scritches he could. He is very chill, and is a fan favorite with the vet staff. Mercury loves attention, and he will headbutt for petting. He can have gentle hugs, too. He can be chatty, especially when it is meal time. As he’s been able to move about more we are learning that he likes his felt mice. He is able to bear weight on his front leg again and has been allowed more space to move about. Mercury is easily handled and loves human companionship. We can see that someone loved him once, based on how he shows us love in return. He has been through so much, and is still as sweet as pie. He is still weak and we are concerned that he doesn’t reinjure his leg. We are looking for a quiet home that will keep his activity level within the vet’s recommendation. We aren’t sure about stairs for him yet, so bonus points if you have a single level home. That Mercury both survived the fall and stayed alive for at least two weeks (inferred from the breaks) before being rescued is a miracle. And that he’s maintained such a peaceful loving demeanor despite the pain he has endured is also a surprise. Now he’s looking for a third miracle, a perfect, quiet home that will love him gently and deeply for the rest of his days. Mercury can comfortably be an only cat. He has not met other cats or dogs, but he can be tested if need be. We estimate that he is 5 years old, maybe less. He is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and vaccinated. He is negative for FIV/FeLV. He is in foster in southern CT, but we travel for great homes! Apply to adopt him today: https://form.jotform.com/250073732465152
