About Sammy
Click apply to start the adoption process. The time has come for these sweet British Lab girls to find their forever families! Sammy and her sister Bo are purebred British Labrador Retrievers, born at the end of June. At about 12 weeks old, it was noticed that they were having trouble keeping food and water down and weren't gaining weight as expected. After seeing a vet, it was discovered they have a congenital condition called Megaesophagus, which causes the esophagus to stretch out due to improper stomach function at the top. As a result, food comes right back up after swallowing, a process called regurgitation. Because of their condition, Sammy will need to eat in a special chair for life, but she is already fully trained to use it. Currently, she enjoys meals three times a day: Nutrisource kibble soaked in water and some unflavored gelatin cubes. Meal times are an absolute favorite! While Sammy is considered special needs, she can enjoy a long, happy life and loves going for walks, running in the backyard, playing with toys, and snuggling just like any other dog. She should not go swimming due to the risk of water aspiration and can't drink from a bowl or have standard treats. Instead, she gets hydration from gelatin cubes and enjoys treats like human toddler puffs that melt in the mouth. Sammy loves other dogs but needs to be adopted separately from her sister to avoid littermate syndrome. While the sisters have been housed separately, they currently eat together side by side in their special chairs. You won't find a sweeter girl—Sammy is gentle and will quickly capture your heart. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.
