Charlie doesn’t have special needs, and his friendly and gentle demeanor makes him a good fit for families, especially since he gets along well with both children and other dogs.

About Charlie

Charlie is a Labrador Retriever/Shepherd mix with quite a story behind him. He became known as the Highway 73 dog after spending weeks on the run before finally being caught by live trap near Chisholm. Since then, Charlie has been living in a foster home, learning how to relax and trust again. He gets along well with other dogs and is good with children. He’s a bit unsure around men at first, but once he knows you, a very sweet and gentle side comes out. Outside time is essential for Charlie—he’s happiest exploring a yard or being chased during play. He needs a securely fenced yard, as his love for the outdoors is matched by a wandering spirit. He’s house trained and will let you know when he needs to go out. Clever and eager, Charlie knows how to sit and lay down, and he’s gentle when taking treats. He likes bones and, admittedly, getting into the garbage now and then. Affection isn’t his first language—he prefers his space, choosing his own place to sleep rather than snuggling up. He will rest on your bed when it’s empty but moves once you settle in. Charlie is still learning that petting is a good thing, and can tense up at touch, especially when he’s nervous. To meet Charlie, an appointment is needed since he is in a foster home rather than at the shelter. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.
