Sweet Liya comes all the way from Azerbaijan, former Soviet Republic, where animals are often mistreated or dumped to survive on harsh streets. Liya is 2 years old and is known for being extremely friendly, personable. Like many Azeri street cats, she is highly intelligent, emotionally intuitive, and mellow. The staff at the rescue in Azerbaijan describe her thus: "Liya is a sweet, cheerful, and intelligent girl. She loves people, cats, and dogs. She knows her name, loves giving her paw, sitting, and lying down on command. But behind her playful nature lies a deeply heartbreaking story… When Liya was just a tiny kitten, during the peak of the summer heat, she was wandering the streets, begging for food from passersby. One day, a car mercilessly ran over her. It seemed like everything was over… but a miracle happened — Liya survived. She was lucky enough to be brought to our rescue. After a long and difficult treatment, Liya slowly started to walk again. Today, she is fully healthy. Though she still has a slight limp, it doesn't stop her from living her life to the fullest.
