Meet Somali! Somali is a stunning 2-year-old American Bulldog/Dogo Argentino mix weighing about 56 pounds. With his handsome white/cream coat and low grooming needs, this boy is as easy to care for as he is to love. Somali came to Dogworks from the local shelter after being found running at large. Since entering foster care, he has shown just how adaptable and wonderful he truly is. He would fit beautifully into almost any lifestyle and has proven himself to be dog-friendly, cat-safe, and an all-around great companion. One of Somali’s favorite adventures so far was a weekend camping trip—he was absolutely amazing! He did great being left in the camper for short periods, enjoyed golf cart rides, and was perfectly content being tied out and lounging in the grass. At home, he loves playing with his Kong, chasing squirrels in the yard, or relaxing on the couch with his people. Somali can be a little shy when meeting new people, especially if there’s a lot of energy at first, but he warms up quickly. He initially seemed hesitant around men, but that continues to improve every day. He responds very well to verbal correction and time-outs, understands “no,” and is both crate trained and potty trained. He knows basic commands like sit and come, walks well on a leash, and has excellent manners around food—you can even take his bowl away without issue. He gets along great with other dogs and cats, though he may occasionally engage in gentle play with a confident kitty. Somali will need a standard fenced yard to safely enjoy outdoor time. Important note: Somali cannot have rope or stuffed toys, as he will shred them. He recently had surgery to remove ingested toy material, so safe toys like Kongs and sturdy bones are best for him. He is an all-around very good boy! At night, he’s happy to sleep on the couch, and he does great with a routine. His foster makes sure to get up early in the morning so he can head outside for a potty break—once the sun comes up, he’s ready to start his day!
