He has some slight hesitation with the unfamiliar, as it seems like he doesn't have much experience with the big, scary world and is still quite young, seeming a bit younger than his estimated age. He overcomes his uncertainty quickly and is willing to trust that you are safe and then will stick close to you, not hiding, but borrowing some of your confidence as he builds his own. He honestly seems like a puppy with a heart of gold who would settle very easily into a home and would love to have someone help him learn that the world is interesting, not intimidating. Once he feels safe in one place, he is a little reluctant to transition to a new one, understandably, but with how quickly he decided that the new room was safe, I don't think it would take him long to expand his world. He relaxed beautifully for massage, especially with somatic chest rubs. He wants to believe that the world is a beautiful place and he hopes you will show him. 1/1/26 Comments from AnnaLisa with Well in Hand Animal Massage: A very sweet, sweet baby boy who went from nervous to so relaxed and just wanted to be close. I think he would blossom so easily in a home. He's a sensitive boy who is willing to trust and is reported to be coming out of his shell at the shelter as the office foster. I bet he would just give a big old sigh in a quiet house. His finder reported he was good with strangers, animals and kids. If a quiet soul like his can relax even a little in a shelter environment, a safe home would be even better. Good dog meets at the shelter! Per staff 1/1/26: Chilo received a massage and was reported to be a very good boy! He was a little reserved when meeting the massage therapist and when I visited the room again he was sitting next to her and she was messaging him. She noted that he really leaned into somatic circular chest rubbing. He greeted me when I entered the room and was hesitant when crossing the threshold out of the room, but walked nicely back to the office he is residing in. He immediately perked up when he saw the male staff member who has been working with him and loosened his body and had full tail wags. Per staff 1/1/26: If at all possible can we make sure that whomever takes Chilo understands that he is not house broken. Per staff 12/31/25: Improving day by day in the office, meeting new people and allowing more and more pets and handling. Still over whelmed at times but has shown interest in play and tail wags and approaching people on his own. Super sweet boy who is just very shy at first. Will need someone patient and understanding of his fear issues. Per staff 12/30/25: Making available! He is improving behaviorally while being in the office Chilo's ideal home would be a quiet home that will let him take the time to come out of his shell. In less then a week he is showing up glimmer's of who he will be once fully comfortable. A quiet neighborhood as he is nervous with a lot of noises. Not for first time pet owners Per staff 12/30/25: Did not poop but peed over night. Took him out the same way I did last night. There was a lot of traffic and commotion happened. He was hyper vigilant and back leg was trembling. We walked up and down the little grass strip and he did sniff but did not go potty. In the office he is soliciting attention from me and others. He even allowed me to wipe in down with a pet wipe. Per staff 12/29/25: Chilo is coming out of the crate more even when people are coming in and out of the office. He still likes to hide under the desk but he is coming up and nudging hands and allowing gentle pets. He also went potty outside tonight! I walked him through the building to the admin door and walked over to the grass area by the pen. At first he was trembling and we just kept slowly moving. He even did some sniffing! Per staff 12/28/25 (Regarding meet with Marcellius): Tolerant, tense, head low, tail down, still body, hiding behind the handler, averted gaze Per staff 12/28/25: Spent time in the office today. He was coming out of the crate and seeking social contact with me by standing near me, and nudging my hand very gently or stepping closer if I stopped petting him while I was sitting down, attempted to follow me out of the room a few times as I came and went. If people move too fast he moves away, need to go very slow with him. Per staff 12/28/25: When I came into the office this morning his kennel was covered in feces. I went and go new blankets to change out the bedding. When I went to leash him he back leg started to tremble. As I was cleaning the crate, he kept trying to squeeze by me while I was cleaning to go into the crate. Once crate was clean he went right back in and allowed me to unleash. Gave a bowl of fresh pet and left the office. When I came back he had nudged the bowl into the corner and spilled it. Per staff 12/27/25: Chilo this morning had softer eyes and allowed me to easily leash him in the crate. he had an empty bowl of fresh pet as he ate it all this morning. Once secured he walked over to rachel and lightly leaned against her. once she stopped petting him, he went back into her some more. she gave him some head rubs and back pets. Outside Chilo was trembling and sliding so we kept our walk short. he kept walking behind me and stopping. back inside i went into the eval room with him and dropped the leash. i tried letting him engage in toys and play. he followed me around the room and nudged his nose into my cheek when i bent over to pick up a toy. i crouched down and "crab walked" around the room to be less intimidating. he continued to follow me and nudged me once for some pets which he tolerated. Per staff 12/26/25: Kennel Presentation: Chilo was on his bed with wide worried eyes. He began trembling and moved to the behind his bed with a tucked tail and hunched over body. i tossed some treats in while opening the kennel door. he began defecating and urinating on himself once the door was opened. i showed him the leash and tossed it in front of him. he looked up at me with wide eyes and began low growling at me. i threw a lasso leash and once secured he urinated again and pulled back slightly before quickly coming out. Leash Skills: pulls minimal to moderate - will dart on leash, moves sporadic on leash Sociability: Chilo was walking slowly around with me, tucking himself behind my legs. I stayed still for awhile as i looked behind me, he began looking through my legs. he was very still with a trembling body and tucked tail whenever i looked at him. i moved around the room as we contend the same habit, i move, he hides behind my legs. i offered him lots of high value treats which he ignored ,not even sniffing them. i asked another handler to come into the room, to which he kept his eyes on her. she offered some pepperoni which he also ignored. i moved around with him as his body went with me (behind me). We did a dog meet and he was avoidant and otherwise remained shutdown. The other handler recommended putting on a calming collar. He allowed me to pull the collar over his head with some pressure as it was stuck on his head. He was very tolerant of the process and remained still as i maneuvered it around. Play: squeaked a toy and tossed a ball towards him, he kept eye contact with me Dog Interaction: avoidant, kept eyes on the handler, did not sniff or try to engage with dog, other dog went up to nose boop him, he pulled him head back in reaction to the boop and went back to slowly walking away Return to Kennel: went into crate in office for some decompression Per staff 12/26/25: Increasing Trazadone due to FAS Per staff 12/26/25: ACA called me over the radio to help get Chilo back to the kennel. They were able to get him checked in and then the ACA wanted to take him outside for a quick walk. Chilo started to growl once outside. I had to use my leash to place under his belly to get to walk as he was not eating any treats. placing on evaluate for now Per staff 12/24/25: ACA's couldnt leash pt was avoidant and timid. Tail tucked urinating nervously and whale eyed. Per staff 12/23/25: He's a sweet nervous boy. He eventually allowed me to attempt to scan him once I went slow with him. Per finder 12/23/25: Good (with strangers, animals, and kids), friendly, quiet -- ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
