About Maisy

Female Chipped OSS (Ovary Sparing Spay) Please note: dog will have a heat cycle still but not bleed due to her uterus being removed. This allows for the dog to still have all the wonderful health benefits of having hormones without getting pregnant. Heat smell can be mitigated by giving the dog chlorophyll during her cycles so as to not attract male dogs. More info on hormone sparing sterilizations on our website. Current on vaccines and deworming We believe Maisie was dumped near the corner of N. Kulani. She was terrified and would not allow anyone to approach her. On December 7th, we were able to safely catch her using a dog trap, and she has been with her foster family in Keaau ever since. Shortly after arriving in foster care, it became clear that something wasn’t right with her leg. X-rays revealed that this sweet girl had a dislocated hip. Once she was given pain medication, Maisie immediately began playing like the puppy she truly is—showing just how much discomfort she had been living with. Our options were amputation or an FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery, and we chose surgery in order to save her leg. Thanks to generous fundraising efforts and overwhelming community support, Maisie was able to receive the surgery she needed. She is still in the healing process, but we are now accepting applications for when she is ready for adoption. 🤍 Maisie does not do well when crated while left alone. She has managed to break or chew her way out of standard crates, so unless an impact crate is available, she will need to be secured on a lead in the yard when her owners are away. When people are home, she does very well—even in a crate. When left alone, her puppy curiosity can lead to some mischief, but with patience, training, and time, she is expected to grow out of this phase. We believe Maisie is under a year old, so she is still very young. She currently weighs around 35 pounds and is not expected to grow much larger. She does not appear to have a high prey drive and is likely to do well with cats and chickens. She is mostly potty trained with the occasional accident, rides great in the car, walks nicely on leash, and gets along well with all other dogs. 🐾
