Oscar
AvailableOscar is a large, short-coated Coonhound mix with striking tricolor markings. This neutered male is approaching his senior years and lives in Washington, PA. While he isn’t house trained yet, he’s up to date on his vaccinations and looking for a quieter home where he can relax and recover.
About Oscar
Oscar prefers a quiet, cozy life and will happily spend hours on his big foam bed. He’d be a good match for someone looking for an easygoing companion who enjoys a slow pace. Oscar survived some tough times after being abandoned with only a garbage can for shelter and losing his canine friend; it’s left him with a gentle spirit that volunteers call 'the sweetest of hounds.' He likes to offer you his paw, even though it’s twisted from an old injury, and walks politely on a leash despite the discomfort. Oscar will eventually need fusion surgery on his left front leg so he can live without pain, but right now he needs to gain a bit more weight before that’s possible. He’s estimated to be between six and seven years old, right on the cusp of seniorhood. Oscar isn’t much for the company of other dogs and prefers to be the only dog in the household. He’s working on house training and loves nothing more than lounging near his people. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Oscar
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Oscar is a Coonhound mix, a breed that usually does best in a calm, stable home with moderate activity. He’ll feel most comfortable in a quiet environment where he can lounge indoors and take short walks.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
While Coonhounds often enjoy access to a fenced yard or larger outdoor spaces, Oscar’s low activity level means he’s content with short leash walks and doesn’t need a lot of yard or space to thrive.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Coonhounds can be gentle with children, but Oscar’s laid-back nature and desire for a peaceful home make him better suited for homes with older kids or adults who understand his slower pace.
