About Smokey

Smokey is a 9-year-old Dutch Shepherd mix who landed at the sanctuary after being pulled from a packed shelter. He arrived in pretty rough shape: flea-infested and with irritated skin, but a little focused care brought him back around. Now, as a 75-pound senior, he’s showing his true, gentle side. Smokey’s hearing is fading, but his eyes are sharp, and he’s managing well with the transition. An old ACL injury is being kept in check with pain meds, though surgery could be possible down the line. Through everything, Smokey is steady and easygoing. He’s house trained and soaks up attention, happy to play fetch or tag along on slow walks. These days, he’s settling nicely into his foster home, content to be near his people. His resilience is obvious—calm, unbothered, and as handsome as they come. Fun fact: Born May 3, Smokey is a Taurus, known for their loyal and steadfast nature. They’re looking for the right person to join them in this next, more peaceful chapter. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
