About Derek
Derek is a gentle soul who wants to trust but hasn't quite learned how yet. He is incredibly sweet and would never hurt a fly, but every new experience and introduction to people lets his nerves show. Derek is the kind of dog often overlooked in shelters—reserved, hard to place, and needing someone with a little extra patience. But there's something special about helping a dog like him open up. Watching Derek slowly blossom, gaining confidence and learning the simple joys of being a dog, is truly worthwhile. Derek feels most at ease around other dogs; having a dog companion will help him learn the ropes and offer him reassurance. His ideal setup includes a securely fenced yard, giving him a safe space while he gets used to his new world. He needs a home committed to working at his pace. Expect initial fear and uncertainty, but in time, he will become your shadow, loyally following you through the house. Derek has shown no aggression to people or other dogs. While his comfort with cats is unknown, it's best to skip homes with young children for now—he’ll fare much better in a calm, adult-only environment. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, crate trained, and house trained. Derek is seeking a patient adopter ready for a long but rewarding journey.
