About Sonny
Sonny and his companion Cher were discovered weaving through city traffic in South LA, clearly hungry and desperate. Both wore collars, but after waiting to see if they’d return home, it became clear they didn’t have anywhere to go. Their resourcefulness led them to the steps of a police station, munching on old pizza and keeping visitors away as if guarding the entrance. While Cher warmed up quickly, Sonny was wary and tough to catch, only relenting after a patient two-hour effort and a humble car-trap. Once safe, both curled up together, clearly exhausted yet finally able to rest. After time in foster care, Sonny turned into a gentle, affectionate soul. He’s still adjusting to all the new touches and leash walks, but he’s shown surprising speed in learning. Sonny loves attention now and does well in a crate. Though he can show some separation anxiety—fair, given all he’s been through—he craves comfort and closeness as he settles into being safe. Sonny is house trained, gets along with other dogs and cats, and is simply waiting for someone to give him the steady, caring home he’s never had.
