Meet Oma! On May 22nd of this year, we received a plea about an extremely overweight dog118 pounds, to be exactwho had been confiscated by a shelter. We love a challenge, so we welcomed her with open arms and named her Oma.We immediately had her tested for diabetes, thyroid issues, and Cushings to rule out any medical cause for her condition. Every single test came back perfect. Oma wasnt sickshe was simply severely overweight. Her target weight was estimated to be around 6570 pounds.So her foster mom got right to work. Oma started a healthy diet, gentle walks to the best of her ability, and semi-weekly weigh-ins. On top of all this, Oma was also heartworm positive. She needed to lose the weight before she could even begin treatment, so a careful plan was put into motion.Fast forward six months and what a transformation.Oma now weighs 69 poundsjust about five pounds from her ideal goaland she has completed her heartworm treatment like an absolute champion. She runs, she walks, and she is truly happy in a way she never got to be before.Now its time for the grand finale: finding Oma her forever home.She has worked so hard to become healthy, and her foster mom has been nothing short of an angel through it all. Getting Oma adopted will be the perfect ending to her incredible journeyand the beautiful beginning of her next chapter.Lets do this for her.
