Kairi's is a story of transformation. The day we trapped Kairi I nearly had to have the tip of my finger stitched back on. She was so frightened to be removed from the only home she knew: a lovely little garden bed with her 5 kittens in the front of a house in the suburbs. Unfortunately they were not able to stay there as the neighbors didn't appreciate the cats roaming. Torn from everything she knew, Kairi withdrew. She was frightened, defensive, and wasn't adjusting to life inside a home. Not having an alley to return to, we released her into her foster's barn, hoping that as unfriendly as she was, that maybe she would wander off and find a new home with someone she did like. She chose to stay. After a year, one night, when her foster was out having a drink and a snack in the hammock, she appeared out of the bushes, watching her foster closely. Her foster tossed her a little piece of hot dog and the pact was sealed. A single bite of hot dog and the next day Kairi was eating her bikkies out of the hand of her foster who had never even once pet her. She rubbed on her legs, rolled over for her tummy to be rubbed, and follows her foster around as she does her farm chores. She sits at her foster's back door, her nose pressed against the glass, and waits for her foster to come out and per her. She seems like a completely different cat. As the weather gets colder, we are trying to coax her inside, but seeing the other cats inside of the house, Kairi would prefer to stay outside. Kairi is looking for a forever home - possibly even inside if there are no other animals! Having fostered over 70 cats, I can confidently say she is one of the sweetest cats I've ever met. Please consider Kairi, she has waited so long, lost her first home, watched as her kittens were all adopted out, and finally found to courage to love and be loved in return.
