Brayleigh is a medium-sized, adult female Australian shepherd mix currently being cared for at Speak! Rescue and Sanctuary. She is spayed, house trained, and her vaccinations are up to date. Brayleigh is both deaf and blind, requiring special care to ensure her well-being. Although her coat length is not specified, she benefits from regular grooming due to allergies which also require dedicated medical attention. She does not get along with cats, but she is friendly with dogs and children.

About Brayleigh

This could be the start of something paw-some. Some dogs are easy. They love everybody and everything and have no quirks or issues. But doesn't that make life kind of boring? Brayleigh is anything but boring. This girl was found as a stray on the streets of Texas, struggling with skin and ear infections and missing most of her fur. She is both blind and deaf, but Brayleigh is a strong and sassy survivor. With great care, her coat began to grow back, and she bravely underwent surgery for her knees. Throughout everything, Brayleigh has stayed true to herself. She is complex—untrusting of strangers and wary of men, yet she opens up sweetly and playfully to women and enjoys the company of male dogs. Once she chooses her friends, she is very affectionate and playful, unless it comes to grooming like brushing or nail clipping, which are not her favorites. Having faced much in her 5-6 years, Brayleigh certainly knows what she does and doesn’t like! She plays joyfully and loves to curl up nearby, never too clingy but always comforted by her person’s presence. Toys are Brayleigh's newfound delight; sometimes she clings to them as she rests, likely making up for lost time. Brayleigh's DNA shows she's an Australian shepherd/Australian koolie/Australian cattle dog/Shar-Pei mix at a convenient 25 pounds. This sweet girl is wonderful on a leash and crate trained, with reliable house training—pottying outdoors when dry or inside on a pad. She responds to touch commands and asserts that's all she needs to know for now. Brayleigh's ideal home is very specific: a patient woman or women, preferably with experience working with “interesting” dogs. She would enjoy being an only pet or possibly living with a calm male dog, but she does not get along with cats. A fenced yard is a must for her safety, and she’d enjoy someone home most of the time, although she is content on her own and non-destructive. Due to allergies, Brayleigh needs regular baths, brushing, daily medicine, and weekly injections. She can be stubborn, but her affection and big sloppy kisses make everything worthwhile. By the way, her birthday makes her a logical, loyal Taurus—the zodiac’s most steadfast sun sign! It will take a special adopter to love this special girl, but Brayleigh is more than worth it. They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
