He came from a difficult background as part of a massive rescue around Eagle Pass, TX, where he and many others were abandoned. He was quite fearful at first, but he's come out of his shell and shown real spirit—curious, spunky, and cuddly once he feels safe around you. He still has his insecurities; new places and people make him nervous, and he may retreat or even growl out of fear, not aggression. He prefers to approach people on his own terms and can explore calm public spaces like Home Depot when given time. Potty training came naturally to him, and he’s learning commands like "drop" and "leave it," though he does still get into things when his curiosity strikes. Give him a chew toy and he’s a happy camper. Evander loves to be wherever his person is, draping himself across the couch for snuggles after some play. He gets along very well with other dogs—especially his foster sister, with whom he loves to roughhouse—but he’s also learning that not every dog wants to play all the time.
