About Evander
Meet Evander! Evander is a medium-sized, three-year-old Boxer mix weighing in at 50 pounds. He came from a difficult background as part of a massive rescue around Eagle Pass, TX, where he and many others were abandoned. He was quite fearful at first, but he's come out of his shell and shown real spirit—curious, spunky, and cuddly once he feels safe around you. He still has his insecurities; new places and people make him nervous, and he may retreat or even growl out of fear, not aggression. He prefers to approach people on his own terms and can explore calm public spaces like Home Depot when given time. Potty training came naturally to him, and he’s learning commands like "drop" and "leave it," though he does still get into things when his curiosity strikes. Give him a chew toy and he’s a happy camper. Evander loves to be wherever his person is, draping himself across the couch for snuggles after some play. He gets along very well with other dogs—especially his foster sister, with whom he loves to roughhouse—but he’s also learning that not every dog wants to play all the time. He waits patiently at his spot for meals and treats his crate as a safe haven, quietly sleeping there overnight or while his foster is away. He enjoys movement and daily walks have helped build his confidence. He’s shown himself capable of adapting to apartment life if he can still get enough exercise. Evander hasn’t been cat-tested, but he’s been curious at a distance and would need slow introductions. He hasn’t lived with kids, but older ones should be fine; he’s a big boy who can get a bit rambunctious when playing, so toddlers might not be the best match. Evander is looking for someone who’ll appreciate his progress and patience as he settles in. He’s eager to keep growing and would bring a lot of happiness to a caring home. Ready to fall in love?
