Gusto
AvailableGusto is a tricolor (brown, black, and white) female mixed breed, combining Smooth Fox Terrier and Jack Russell Terrier lines. She is about 3 years and 7 months old, putting her solidly in adulthood, and falls into the small size range. Gusto is spayed and fully vaccinated, with a gentle temperament. She is based in Ocala, FL and makes a wonderful candidate for someone willing to provide special care to a very shy dog.
About Gusto
Gusto is experiencing big changes right now. She’s slowly allowing more contact and didn’t protest when her foster finally slipped the collar on—a process that took eight days, handled with patience. You’ll notice her lick her lips often; expert eyes say in her case, it’s from nerves. She’s starting to make eye contact again after a week of withdrawing, which is a good sign. Her fosters have been careful and gentle, always asking for permission before touching her. Trust is growing, day by day. Life with Gusto is all about baby steps. She spends quiet time in an air-conditioned van for seclusion and calm, rather than the busier house, to help her decompress from past stress. Moving Gusto still takes some effort; she rides in a 36-inch crate to keep her (and her bonus puppy!) safe from parvo and other risks. They aren’t rushing her. She’s just now allowing a collar, but a leash is going to take a little longer. She shows no aggression—no biting, no defensiveness over her puppy, even gentle eating from the hand. She’s also peaceful around cats and gets along with dogs. What she really needs now is a foster home that moves at her pace. If you're patient and want to help a dog discover her confidence, Gusto’s ready to be your project and your reward. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

Questions about Gusto
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Gusto, being a Smooth Fox Terrier and Jack Russell Terrier mix, is best suited for an environment that offers routine, calm, and patience. Terriers like her feel more secure with steady daily rhythms and a safe, quiet space.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Gusto's breeds are active and benefit from a yard or frequent access to outdoor spaces, but she will do well as long as she has daily walks and playtime outside. As a small dog, she doesn't need acres, just committed outdoor time.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Smooth Fox Terrier/Jack Russell Terrier mixes can do well with respectful children, especially if the children understand her shyness. Gusto would thrive most in homes where kids are patient and gentle.
