About Buddy

CENSUS DEADLINE - FRIDAY 5/23 5pm AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION OR FOSTER Buddy is a handsome middle- ager who has been in and out of the shelter system since 2020. You read that right- this boy has spent YEARS of his life bouncing around, and he truly deserves to find his forever home. Here’s what we know about Buddy from his former homes: - Housebroken and crate trained - Well- behaved when left home alone - Positive history with kiddos - Walks well on leash - Loves to be near his humans and is very affectionate - A big couch potato at home - Likes hikes and car rides - Loves toys and all treats - A big baby and a cuddler - Does well being bathed - Knows basic commands like sit and stay - Looking for a home without cats or other small pets Buddy is a happy boy who lives for snuggles and snacks! Shelter staff initially thought that Buddy may be deaf, but it turns out his hearing is just a bit selective- he only wants to hear good news! Here’s what volunteers at the shelter have said: “Buddy was easy to leash and walked nicely. He knows sit and takes treats gently. In the yard he likes to explore and sniff. Very friendly and sweet.” “Buddy is such a sweet pup and his tail is always wagging when I take him out. Easy to leash up, doesn't pull, and does well in the yard with all his different kennelmates. He’s so trusting of people and he absolutely loves cuddling. Buddy has shared his kennel with a variety of kennel mates and has been easygoing, appropriate, and a bit playful when meeting other dogs in playgroup. He’d like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good fit. Ask to meet Buddy today! Behavioral Issues: (SNA+) 1) NO Cats/Small Animals: • History of chasing after and did fatally injure a cat, aggressed toward a small dog (had muzzle on) • prey drive is breed behavior and instinctual 2) Containment Issues/Flight Risk: Broke through a metal security screen to go after a cat that was laying outside • Dragline needs to remain on for 2 weeks (to change out, clip new leash to collar before removing old leash) • Hold leash in outdoor areas until 100% comfortable • Monitor any outside time. 4) DOG INTRO REQUIRED due to being dog selective and getting into dog altercation in the home, as well as injuring a dog while on leash. • Slow introductions to other dogs, recommend muzzle training for initial introductions. • Use caution when out in public spaces, be aware of other dogs approaching or nearby. • Highly recommend no dog parks. 5) Stranger Danger/People Selective: (previous owner stated he growls at men) • May need 2+ week decompression in home. • Slow introductions to any new people or guests, recommend muzzle for introductions. • Put in separate space (crate/room/etc) when guests come over. • Do not walk in busy areas/move away from people in pathways. • Recommend muzzle training 6) DEAF • Training & Consistency: Highly recommend contacting Gail Smith with (TOP Dogs) at for free training. • Work on positive reinforcement. • TOP Dogs is a Volunteer Project supported by the Friends of PACC (free). 7) Buddy can be obsessive with lights/shadows and hyperfixates on their movements. - Work on recall/redirection when she is trying to find lights/shadows - Work on handler engagement - NO laser pointers!! - Light chasing is a self rewarding behavior and should be stopped as soon as possible
