He walks nicely on leash, loves being near his people, and his affectionate, cuddly nature shines through. Buddy enjoys outdoor adventures like hikes and car rides but is also a self-proclaimed couch potato. He adores toys, treats, and is generally very easygoing—bath time and basic commands like "sit" and "stay" are no problem for him! Buddy's ideal home is without cats or small animals, as his breed's prey drive means he cannot safely live with them. He has a history of chasing and harming small pets, and is considered a flight risk due to previous containment escapes while pursuing small animals. Any adopters should be diligent about keeping Buddy on a dragline outdoors until he is fully settled, and monitoring outside time closely. While Buddy enjoys the company of some dogs and has shared space with kennel mates, he is selective and requires slow introductions, preferably with muzzle training. Dog parks should be avoided due to his past altercations. Buddy may also need patience and very slow introductions with some people, especially men—he may growl at unfamiliar males and will benefit from a decompression period in a new home. Muzzle use for initial new person and dog introductions is highly recommended, and he should be given a safe space if guests are visiting. Buddy's hearing is selective, and while initially thought to be deaf, he responds well to good news and positive reinforcement. He can become obsessed with lights and shadows, so redirection and avoiding laser pointers is crucial.
