About Guy Smiley
Guy Smiley is a small brown Chihuahua, around 3 years old, who needs an adopter with patience and real experience helping a fearful dog. He’s extremely fear-aggressive and will bite when he feels threatened, so someone familiar with building trust in nervous dogs is essential. Months went by before anyone could even pet him, but after a lot of time and treats, he’s made progress. Still, nail trims must be done under sedation for now, and he requires very slow introductions to everything new. Guy Smiley is crate trained and reliably does his business outside. He gets along fine with cats and can likely coexist with other respectful, hands-off dogs, though he's not been fully tested free-roaming with other dogs. He seems to like kids from a distance—he gravitates toward his foster’s 6-year-old, but has not been allowed to interact directly, as his boundaries have to be strictly managed. There’s no sugarcoating it: Guy Smiley is a difficult dog, but with the right person, he could eventually come out of his shell and thrive. Adopters must live within an hour of Romeoville, IL; reference checks, vet checks, and home visits are required, and the process is never rushed. Click apply to start the adoption process.

Questions about Guy Smiley
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Chihuahuas like Guy Smiley often do best in a quiet, stable home environment. Because of his fear aggression, Guy Smiley especially needs a patient and experienced adopter willing to provide him with a calm, structured space.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
As a small Chihuahua, Guy Smiley doesn’t require much outdoor space—short walks and a secure area are enough. He needs a yard only if it's safe and escape-proof, as this breed can squeeze through small gaps.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Chihuahuas can be good with children who respect their boundaries, but Guy Smiley's fear issues mean he should ideally live with adults or older children who understand his sensitivities.
