About Guy Smiley

Click apply to start the adoption process. Say hello to Guy Smiley! This little Chihuahua is estimated to be around 3 years old and weighs about 11 lb. He is searching for a very patient and committed adopter who truly wants to make a difference in a fearful dog's life. Guy Smiley is extremely fear aggressive and will bite when frightened—building trust with him requires lots of time, treats, and experience in handling special dogs safely. We're not sugarcoating it: he is a challenging dog, but in the right hands, he has the potential to thrive. Nail trims will need to be performed under sedation for his comfort and safety. Guy Smiley is crate trained and reliably does his business outside. He gets along with cats and seems comfortable around other dogs, provided they respect his space. While he has shown a fondness for a 6-year-old child in his foster home, he has not yet been handled by children. His adopters should live within an hour driving distance of Romeoville, IL, and will need to complete reference and vet checks, plus a home visit before adoption is finalized. Please note same-day adoptions are not available. Fun fact: with a birthday of October 11, Guy Smiley is a Libra—Libras are often known for their desire for harmony and balance. Questions about Guy Smiley

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Chihuahuas are best suited for homes where they can be close to their family and protected from extreme temperatures, as their small size makes them sensitive to cold. They adapt well to apartments or houses, as long as they are kept safe.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Chihuahuas do not require much outdoor space and are content with short walks and supervised play time; a secure yard or daily outdoor walks are sufficient for their exercise needs.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Chihuahuas can do well with gentle, respectful children, but due to their small size, supervision is important to prevent accidental injury. They may be better suited to families with older children.
