Hi, my name is Helios! I’m a bright and handsome orange tabby named after the Greek god of the sun, and I’m ready to bring some warmth and light into your life! I may have once roamed the streets of Detroit, but thanks to a volunteer, I was trapped for TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). Turns out, I had a little surprise for everyone—I’m actually a super friendly guy who loves people and pets! So instead of going back to the streets, I got a second chance at finding a loving forever home. Living on the streets meant food was hard to come by, so I’m still a bit of a hungry boy. I get really excited for mealtime and may give you my best “feed me” eyes—it’s a look that’s pretty hard to resist! But now I am learning food will always be there for me! While I was out there fending for myself, I also picked up FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). It might sound scary, but don’t worry—it’s not! FIV simply affects my immune system a little, but with regular vet care and a healthy lifestyle, I can live a long, happy life just like any other cat. FIV+ cats can live just as long as non-FIV cats. If introduced properly, FIV and Non-FIV cats can live happy and healthy lives together. The virus is very frail and can only live outside the body for a few seconds, and requires serious physical interaction, like deep bite wounds. Normal social interactions, such as grooming, sharing food and water bowls and litter boxes have no known risk of transmission.
