About Lita & Ford

Lita and Ford are 5-year-old Saint Bernard mix sisters who have lived their whole lives as working dogs, protecting pigs and mini horses on a ranch. After losing their owner, they've spent the last year at a sanctuary where they've continued their role as loyal guardians. They're wired to keep away unwanted animals and strangers, making them excellent protectors of livestock and property. However, these girls have never lived with other dogs or cats and are very aggressive toward them, which has caused issues at the sanctuary, especially with the resident special needs dogs. They're not at fault—their instincts are a product of how they've been raised and trained. They’re always gentle with humans, pigs, horses, and excel when given a job with livestock. The sanctuary is searching for a home where Lita and Ford can keep on working together, but there can’t be any other dogs or cats on the property. Open space, strong fencing, and staying together are all must-haves. They weigh about 100 lbs each, are both spayed, housetrained, and up to date on vaccines. Transport can be arranged within Texas and possibly beyond. They’ll thrive on a ranch or farm needing protector dogs. Give them the fresh start they deserve. What are you waiting for? Apply today!

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Lita and Ford come from a working background, so they need a lot of outdoor space—ideally acreage or a secure, fenced property. They aren’t suited to apartment or suburban life.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Saint Bernard mixes are often patient with children. However, because Lita and Ford have only worked with adults and livestock, any introductions to children should be careful and supervised.
