About Slash
Make their next chapter their best one yet. Slash is ready to rock and become your loyal companion! This big baby has begun to blossom, searching for a new home where he can continue to gain confidence. Slash previously lived with many other dogs but didn't receive much socialization, so new faces and places can be overwhelming for him at first. When he first arrived, he was very frightened, but with time and patience, he has shown his affectionate side to people he trusts. He enjoys playing with toys, walks on a leash, and even has a lapdog side! Slash is known to be a very loud barker, especially around strangers or behind doors, so a detached or single-family home is best, rather than an apartment where walls are shared. Go slow when introducing him to new people or situations and let him approach in his own time—treats are a great way to help him feel more at ease. He will need a patient family willing to teach him about house training and what is appropriate to chew. Crate training is recommended to help him adapt to a new routine and house expectations. Extra time at home to work on his adjustment is a plus. Positive reinforcement and patience will help build a strong bond; aversive training methods are discouraged as they could harm the trust you’re building. Playing with other dogs is one of Slash’s favorite things, especially with dogs who enjoy rough and mouthy play. He did well socializing with a group of chihuahuas at a veterinary clinic and could benefit from another playful, tolerant dog in the home. His response to children is unknown, so all household members should meet him first to make sure it's a good fit. They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now!
